Kenny Reviews “Concussion” (2015)

Will Smith stars as Pittsburgh accomplished Pathologist Dr. Bennet Omalu who uncovers the truth about the effects of too many concussions. It’s after making this discovery where things start to get interesting. We get to see how the NFL reacts to such a discovery and we are shown first hand how individuals are affected by the illness as well as the effect it has on those around them.

This is by far one of Will’s best performances and he should definitely be a strong contender for the Golden Globe. The beautiful and talented Gugu Mbatha-Raw who plays Prema Mutiso (love interest) does an amazing job as well and I really enjoyed her and Will’s chemistry together on screen.

One the other hand I didn’t really care for Alec Baldwin’s portrayal as Dr. Julian Bailes. It’s not that he was bad or anything; I just wasn’t into the character. Also I’m a huge NFL lover and seeing how the league handled everything and how former players was handled really got me giving them the side eye. Still gonna watch the sport but it really makes you think.

Overall “Concussion” is a real good thought provoking firm based on a serious subject that still effecting players today. Great acting from the starring and supporting cast ; including the subject matter makes this movie a must see for football fans or anyone who  isn’t too aware of concussions and the long term effects. I rate this movie 4 out of 5

“Concussion” was released December 25, 2015 and is currently playing at theaters everywhere.

Set it in New York in the 1950’s “Carol” is a story about a department store clerk name Therese  ( Rooney Mara) who dreams of better things and just an overall better life for herself. Then she meets Carol (Cate Blanchett); a older, wealthy, married women who she falls in love with. Over the course of the movie their “relationship” is tested by numerous events, while also paving the way to some beautiful scenery,  and miraculous camera angles and shots. While going along for the ride you can pretty much tell how things will end even when the movie tries to steer you in another direction. The main characters believable and relatable but a lot of the supporting cast doesn’t add much.

Overall ” Carol ” is a beautifully made movie that while somewhat predictable still manages to keep your attention throughout due to its main characters chemistry. I  rate this movie 3.5 out of 5

“Carol” was released November 20, 2015 and is being shown at selected theaters.
